Bed Supperclub Bangkok
May 2003
The white-hot Bed Supperclub is, at first glance reminiscent of the pleasure domes of Manhattan in the 1970’s – its all white spaceship interior and all-too fabulous waitstaff bring back memories of red-velvet ropes and shamelessly discriminating doormen. Yet this is Thailand, so attitude has been ditched in favour of fun; guests recline on plush 40 food beds and order from a revolving cosmopolitan menu devised by Californian Dan Ivarie. Appetisers are the most imaginative offerings: The grilled abalone and mushroom soup with foie gras cream is intense yet delicate; the column of smoke salmon and oyster tartare sandwiched between mashed avocado and whipped cream and dressed with a tobiko caviar vinegarette is sensational. The baked desserts are very sweet – opt for one of the multitudinous fruit selections. (+66 2 651 3537; prix fixe $ 16). P145
